About

My name is Rachel, I'm a 26 year old baking enthusiast! I live in the Midlands with my Mama, Papa and sister although currently (if I can resist buying new baking equipment) every penny is going into my 'house fund' so that I can have my very own kitchen to bake up tasty treats in!

I studied for a degree in sociology at the University of York which I finished in 2010 and then went on to study for an MA in social work at the University of Warwick. I now work as a social worker in a care planning and court team which is incredibly hard work and at times requires lots of cake to get through the week! I know its a really important job so sometimes when its a bit stressful I just have to remember that. If by chance your reading this blog because of an interest in baking but also happen to be considering a career in social work, get in touch and I'll see if I can answer your questions!

Anyway....back to the purpose of this blog! Over the last few years, like many baking enthusiasts I was yet again addicted to the BBC's Great British Bake Off. Every week I would watch wishing that it was me in that tent testing out my baking knowledge and skills. I can also be heard regularly at work starting sentences with 'when I'm a baker...' or 'when I have my own cafe...' so I decided to apply! To my delight I was one of the lucky few hundred from the thousands of applicants to have a telephone interview and then spent the next few weeks desperate for the phone to ring to say I was through to the next stage - no such luck I'm afraid. But - what has happened is that I have gotten an even stronger addiction to baking and am trying lots of new recipes so that hopefully this time next year I will be in a secret location filming the opening episodes to the 2016 series.

I decided to start a blog so that I could get better at explaining how I have made something;
evaluating how well it went and working out solutions if it didn't go to plan. I also hoped that those reading this would be inspired to get baking and try some of my recipes.

I think that's enough from me now, please do get in touch, share your comments and suggestions and let me know if you try any of the bakes on this blog.

For now though - happy baking!

Rach x
